Borough welcome back Alistair Sinclair, John Busher and Mark Blanks to the squad all missing from the last encounter. Players and officials to meet at 1.00pm for the short trip to St.Dominick for a 2.30pm kick off. Thursday, 8th May 2008 There is now a report on the veterans match on the match reports page of this website. After the great success of Sunday Borough now return to league action with their last match of the season at St Dominick this Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm, players and officials to meet at 1.00pm. The season then ends with Borough's presentation and reunion night in the Saltash United Social Club on Friday, 30th May 2008. Tickets for the night have been going well with another 15 being sold at the veterans match. Players and supporters who have yet to purchase their tickets are urged to do so at Saturdays match. Monday, 5th May 2008 Over 200 people turned up to watch St.Stephens Borough veterans take on Plymouth Argyle veterans at Kimberley Stadium yesterday. The spectators were able to see an excellent game of football with both teams evenly matched. Argyle eventually ran out 4-2 winners on the day but it could have quiet easily have been six a piece. Borough's current midfielder Shane Blanks got Boroughs first with manager Steve Brown scoring their second. Joint manager Alistair Sampson also got on the score sheet, unfortunately at the wrong end. It turned out to be an excellent day which raised some much need funds for the club. Friday, 2nd May 2008 Preparations continue for the big match on Sunday and Borough are delighted to announce that Plymouth Argyle have supplied a matchball signed by the current Championship side and another matchball signed by former Manchester United, Everton and Northern Ireland player Norman Whiteside as raffle prizes. Thursday, 1st May 2008 No league game for Borough this weekend so its the turn of the vets as they play Plymouth Argyle this Sunday in Kimberley Stadium, Saltash. 2,30pm kick-off. The two training sessions have gone well and the team approach the match in positive manner. It should be a great day. Sunday, 27th April 2008 Borough suffered their second league defeat of the season lossing 3-1 at home to St.Dominick. Borough struggled to raise a squad for their last home game of the season with no fewer than six players missing for the fixture. St.Dominick who needed the points to try and secure runner up spot battled hard for every ball in a well for contest. Lee Jackett opened the scoring from close range on 15 minutes which was cancelled out by Andy Wright following a good run from Daniel Thompson. Adam Nickson then scored just before the break with James Carmichael securing all 3 points with a goal twenty minutes from time. Friday, 25th April 2008 Borough play at home at Warfelton for the last time this season when St Dominick are the visitors with a 2.30pm kick-off (players and officials to meet at 1.30pm). Despite Borough only having two games left this is the first time the sides will have met this season. Borough play away at St Dominick on Saturday, 10th May 2008. St Dominick managers Colin Summerfield and Andy Carmichael will know Warfelton well from their days managing Saltash United 3rds and several of their players have followed them to St Dominick. St Dominick reached the Cornwall Junior Cup final where they were unlucky to lose to 2-1 to Portreath. Borough hope to have a depleted squad with mark Blanks missing through work and Dave Wright out for the rest of the season with a broken clavical. There are also doubts over Alistair Sinclair who missed Tuesdays match with St Teath followng a knee injury picked up last saturday against Launceston. Players player of the season voting slips will be handed out at Saturdays match and any player, official or supporter who has yet to purchase a ticket for the reunion and presentation night on 30th May 2008 is asked to do so tomorrow to help with organising the event. Thursday, 24th April 2008 Borough vets held their first training session last night in preperation for the game with Plymouth Argyle on 4th May 2008 and the session was well attended. Meanwhile Argyle have confirmed that the squad they have for the match is probably the best squad they have put together for some time with players such as Micky Evans, Martin Barlow, John Matthews, Colin Randell and ex Saltash United goalkeeper Dave Philp all included. The full list of Argyle players is on the social events page of this website.
Wednesday, 23rd April 2008 St Stephens Borough were knocked out of the cup last night by St.Teath by a single goal. Neither team did themselves justice in a tightly fought semi final at Launceston. The first half was fairly even with Borough playing the better football but no team having any real chances to speak of. Fifty five minutes into the game the only goal was scored, a header direct from a corner. St.Teath had a player sent off and five minutes later both teams had 10 men when Dave Wilkinson was shown a red card for a innocent challenge. Borough came close on several occasions but couldn't unlock the defence. borough now need to get over this defeat as they take on local rivals S.Dominick at the weekend. Tuesday, 22nd April 2008 Borough head for Launceston tonight to play St Teath in the first of the two semi-finals of the Knock Out Cup. Kick-off 7.30pm (meet Warfelton 6.00pm). The second seni-final sees St Dennis take on Launceston Utd at Dobwalls on Tuesday, 29th April 2008, kick-off 6.30pm. The final will be played at St Blazey on Bank Holiday Monday - Monday, 5th May 2008 - kick-off to be announced. Borough players and officials are asked to purchase their tickets for the Presentation Night at tonights match or at the home match on Saturday. Supporters are welcome to attend. Tickets cost £5.00 each. Monday, 21st April 2008 St.Stephens Borough take on St.Teath in the knock out cup semi final tomorrow night. The game to be played at Launceston Football Club will be decided on the night with extra time and penalties if required. St.Teath currently occupy second place in Duchy division one and over came Premier league Gunnislake in the last round so it will be no easy push over for the Duchy league champions. Borough welcome back Dave Wright and Mark Blanks to the squad. The only injury doubt is Alistair Sinclair who picked up a knee injury in saturday's win over Launceston. Kick off at Launceston is 7.30pm with players and officials to meet at 6.00pm Sunday, 20th April 2008 St.Stephens Borough took the Duchy League Premier title at the weekend with a convincing 3-0 win over Launceston. Borough put the disappointment of last weeks first league defeat for over 14 months behind them and went out on the attack to gain the 3 points they needed to secure the Premier title for the first time of asking. The game was all over after 25 mintues with a goals from Dave Wilkinson and Stuart Fort. Dave Wilkinson got his second on 90 minutes to begin the celebrations. Borough can not afford to relax as they have the small task of a cup semi-final Tuesday evening against Duchy One in form side St.Teath. Friday, 18th April 2008 Borough have been saddened to learn of the death of St Columb Minor secretary Ken Bicknell. St Columb Minor were due to play on Warfelton this Saturday in the 4.00pm kick-off against Saltash United. That game has now been cancelled. Boroughs game will remain a 2pm kick-off and there will be a minutes silence before the game as a mark of respect for Ken. Thursday, 17th April 2008
Wednesday, 16th April 2008 St.Stephens Borough have a second attempt to win the title this weekend as they host Launceston at Warfelton. Borough will have to bounce back from their first league defeat if they are to secure the title after a disappointing performance away to Lamerton last Saturday. 'It was obviously very disappointing that we weren't able to get the win we needed against Lamerton. Lamerton are a good strong team and I think on the day too many players under performed and as a team we played well within ourselves. I'm sure the players will be even more determined this weekend to claim the title but we will have to perform better than we did last weekend as Launceston are a good team and have produced some good results lately' stated manager Steve Brown. Borough will have a full squad available as they welcome back John Busher for the remainder of the season. Steve Brown will have the sole task of trying to orchestrate a title winning performance as joint manager Alistair Sampson is sunnying himself in warmer climates for a week. Players and officials are reminded that the Kick off for saturdays game has been brought forward to 2.00pm as Saltash United have a game straight after Borough's match. Players and officials are to meet at 1.00pm. Tuesday, 15th April 2008 A copy of the Borough press release in respect of the veterans match is now on the social events page of the website. Borough veterans start training in 8 days time - Wednesday, 23rd April 2008, 6pm at Warfelton - for the big match. Sunday, 13th April 2008 St.Stephens Borough suffered their first league defeat in 29 games being beaten by a late goal away to Lamerton. The last team to take all three points of Borough was Launceston 14 months ago back in January 2007. Borough who needed a win to secure the Duchy Premier league title did not do themselves justice against a competetive Lamerton who struck a late winner in the 85th minute following a goal mouth scramble. Borough now need to pick themselves up for next Saturday's home fixture against Launceston. Friday, 11th April 2008 Borough make the short journey to Lamerton tomorrow knowing a win will see them take the Duchy Premier title. The Borough management will be able to select from the same squad that won at Torpoint last week with the added benefit of having Nick Souncess available if they need him. Players and officials to meet at 1.00pm for a 2.30pm kick off Thursday, 10th April 2008 The Jefferys Estate Agents Knock-Out Cup Semi-Final v St Teath will take place at Launceston under floodlights on Tuesday, 22nd April 2008, kick-off 7.30pm. Off the pitch, popular Borough goalkeeper Dave Greene will be running the Saltash Half Marathon on Sunday, 4th May 2008, 10am start, on behalf of the club and would be grateful for any sponsorship. If any other Borough players or officials want to take part in the Half Marathon entry forms can be obtained from http://www.tamartrotters.co.uk/club_races/saltash_half/saltash_half_main_page.htm and sponsorship forms are obtainable from club secretary Julian Chenery.
Tuesday, 8th April 2008 Borough now know who their Jefferys Estate Agents Knock-Out Cup Semi-Final opppnents will be after Division One St Teath caused an upset by scoring two late goals to defeat Premier Division side Gunnislake 2-1 in their quarter final. The match will be played on a neutral ground on a date to be arranged. Sunday, 6th April 2008 Borough collected three valuable points away to Torpoint. In blustery conditions both teams battled hard to take control over this important game. With Torpoint hosting the top three goal scorers in Duchy Premier and with Borough having the best defensive record in the Duchy league it was always going to be a entertaining prospect. There was a degree of luck invovled in Borough's first goal as Jamie Manuel lopped a ball into the box which seemed to be covered by the keeper who collected the ball and stepped back over his goal line. There was no luck involved in Borough's other two though as Stuart Fort scored and Ross Exley got his first for Borough screamiing home a long range shot. Brian Stacey scored Torpoints only goal. With St.Dominick dropping two points Borough now need just two more points to take the title. Friday, 4th April 2008 After an unwelcome break Borough finally return to football action on Saturday with a tricky away fixture at Torpoint. Managers Steve Brown and Alistair Sampson hope to have a full squad available with the exception of Ben Philp who will miss the remainder of the season. Players and officials are reminded it is a 1.00pm meet at Warfelton. Wednesday, 2nd April 2008 Borough tested their potential new home on Saturday with a training session on Saltmill Park in preparation for a tough away fixture to Torpoint this weekend. It will be a particularly tough as Borough no longer have influential centre midfielder Ben Philp available to them for the rest of the season due to work. Borough also have some injury doubts over Alistair Sinclair and Stuart Fort who were both unable to train at the weekend due to injury. The absence of Ben Philp for the rest of the season and potential injuries to key players have left the squad somewhat depleted and with crucial must win games to come the management took the decision to take up the kind offer of ex-Borough player Nick Souness who approached the club and offered to re-sign for the remainder of the season as emergency cover. Souness who played centre midfield last season for Borough now plays for Dobwalls in the Peninsula league but with only two fixture remaining will be available for most of the remaining Borough fixtures. Tuesday, 1st April 2008 Borough's match at home to Launceston on 19th April 2008 will now kick-off at 2.00pm as Saltash United 3rds will play after them at 4.00pm. The meeting time for players and officials will therefore be 1.00pm at Warfelton. Friday, 28th March 2008 Borough face another frustrated saturday with no match. However they have a full fixture list for April starting with a tough away fixture next week Torpoint followed by a trip to Lamerton. Both matches are must wins to keep on track to take the title. Players are advised that training tomorrow will take place at Saltmill Park. Players should be ready to start training at 12.30pm, meet in the Saltmill Park car park, with running trainers and football boots (rubber soles). Players are advised to bring £1.50 to cover the cost of hiring the pitch. Friday, 21st March 2008 The April fixtures have been amended slightly. The new fixture list is: Saturday, 5th April - Torpoint (A) Saturday, 12th April - Lamerton (A) Saturday, 19th April - Launceston (H) Saturday, 26th April - St Dominick (H) Thursday, 20th March 2008 Borough face an unwelcome break into their run in to the league with no game until the 5th April. A tough away fixture to Torpoint will be there first game in nearly a month. Retaining the fitness levels of the team is going to be vital. Players are reminded on the important of attending Saturday's training session at 1.00pm. Off the field tickets to the clubs ten year celebration and presentation night on 30th May 2008 have gone on sale and early sales are good. Players. officials and supports - past & present - are asked to ensure that they have purchased their tickets by the first week of May to assist the club in arranging the buffet etc. Current players in particular are asked to purchase theirs at one of the three April games or at training. Wednesday, 19th March 2008 Borough's April fixtures are now out. These are Saturday, 5th April - Torpoint (A) Saturday, 12th April - Launceston (H) Saturday, 19th April - no game Saturday, 26th April - St Dominick (H) That leaves Lamerton (away) and St Dominick (away) plus the Knock-Out Cup semi-final and hopefully final to be scheduled in May. Saturday, 15th March 2008 The match against Lamerton has been called off due to the weather. This means Borough will go at least 2 weekends without a game as next weeks clash against St.Dominick is off as they represent the league in the Cornwall Junior Cup final. Training as been arranged for 1.00pm next saturday.
Friday, 14th March 2008 The game against Lamerton is currently still going ahead although this will be very much dependant on the weather over the next 24 hours. The Borough squad is strengthened for the vital league game with the return of Alistair Sinclair, Ben Philp, Mark Loton and Nathan Holliday. Jame Tripp will be unavailable for slection due to an injury he sustained after 'running into gate'! Players and Officials to meet at 1.00pm.
Monday, 10th March 2008 St Stephens Borough are shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Colin Atkins on Saturday evening. Colin was working at home and collapsed on the way back into his house. Colin was a long time referee and officer of the St.Blazey Youth League. In the later years of his refereeing career he wished to give more time back to the game and became involved with the Duchy League. Colin became Colin was one of the real nice guys of Cornish football. He was greatly liked and respected by all of the Duchy League. The club sends our condolences to his wife and family. Sunday, 9th March 2008 Borough were made to work hard for their points but eventually ran out deserving winners against bottom of the table St.Merryn. The conditions were not favourable and suited St.Merryn more than Borough. The first endless goaless but in the second half Borough went up a gear with Jamie Manuels first goal of the season and a deflected Andy Wright freekick sealing all three points. Friday, 7th March 2008 Borough travel to St Merryn tomorrow in the Duchy League Premier Division with a 2.30pm kick-off. Players and officials are reminded that the team will meet at Warfelton at 12.30pm. Borough managers Steve Brown and Alistair Sampson will be looking for the team to return to winning ways and should have a full squad available. Thursday, 6th March 2008 Congratulations to St Dominick who last night reached the Cornwall Junior Cup final after beating Torpoint 4-0 in the Eastern Divisional Final in Kimberley Stadium. They now play Portreath at Wadebridge on Easter Monday - 24th March 2008 - kick-off 2.15pm. With Saltash United facing Truro City in the Cornwall Senior Cup final immediately after - 4.30pm kick-off - there is a lot of Saltash involvement in both matches. Borough wish both clubs well in their finals. Tuesday, 4th March 2008 St Stephens Borough can confirm that their presentation night will be on Friday, 30th May 2008, in the Saltash United Social Club. This will form part of the club's 10 year celebration night. Tickets are on sale for the evening priced at £5.00 per ticket to include live music and a buffet. Contact any club official for details on how to obtain tickets. Monday, 3rd March 2008 Borough dropped our first points of the season on Saturday as we drew 0-0 at home to Pensilva. All credit to Pensilva who defended well from the start and frustrated Borough with a well worked game plan. Elsewhere Edgcumbe saw their chances of winning the title disappear with a 4-3 defeat at St Mawgan, a result which confirms that mathematically they cannot now catch Borough. Next Saturdays opponents St Merryn went down 4-0 at Launceston. Friday, 29th February 2008 Borough entertain Pensilva at Warfelton tomorrow in our penultimate home league match of the season. Kick-off is 2.30pm (meet Warfelton 1.30pm).
