St Paul's Explorer Unit.
You may already be in the Scouting / Guiding movement - you may have only just thought you might like to join... either way we know that traditionally it is the Leaders who explain a lot of information to parents and new Explorers when they join. But this is a brilliant way for you to find out what we are about.
Written by Explorers, for Explorers and their families, this site is to give you the low down on our Section and our Group in particular.
Explorer Scouts are boys/girls from the age of 14 yrs until they reach 18 yrs old. The Explorers Section has only been part of the Scouting movement for a short while, the reorganisation of the movement saw the closing of the Venture Scout section and the beginning of the Explorer Scout section. Explorers follows on from Scouts, but you dont have to have been a Scout to join Explorers.
As an Explorer Scout, you will get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts in your District, not just your Unit. By doing this, you will get the chance to do many more activities, not just the ones your Unit organises.
Explorers are encouraged to be less dependant on the Leaders and we organise our own itinerary. You will find that our meetings are less formal than you may be used to or have heard about for instance we do not wear uniform for our meetings though, of course, uniform is required for organised visits and formal occasions.
But one thing stays the same
WE HAVE FUN!
In our Explorers unit we do a wide range of activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Young Leadersand other Scouting awards. Members of our Group regularly take part in events such as Ten Tors and the Coast to Coast Challenge. We often complete sponsored tasks in support of other charitable organisations in our community and then there are weekend camps, fishing nights, bonfire nights and indoor games evenings that we do - just for the hell of it!
