Home > Community > Entertainment > Dance > Community Website KEY TO STEPS R = right, L = left, s= stamp, f = flat, t = toe(using the ball of the foot like putting a cigarette out), h = heel, hk = heel kick, hd = heel drop, p= point (using the very point of the shoe (ie the toes) behind the other foot) BEGINNERS' TANGOS Introduction - walking around your partner Rs, Clap,Clap,Clap x 4 (clap with hands held diagonally across to left of body) Rs, L pivot x 8 (go round anticlockwise twice, arms rising outwards and upwards) Rs, lift L knee and clap the knee with the R hand, then Ls, lift R knee and clap knee with R hand x 4 (i.e. total of 8 stamps and claps on the knee) V-shaped step - start with Rs, Lt, Rt, Lf then RS, Rh,Rh,Rh, then reverse i.e. Ls, Rt, Lt, Rf, Ls, Lh,Lh,Lh x 2 (i.e there are a total of 4 v-shaped steps starting with R, then L, then R then L) Back to-Back step - Rs with Ldrag x 8 (you are back to back with your partner for 5 then turn to face your partner for the last 3) Rumbas Step x 8 (starting on the R - for the first two face your partner (arms sweep up in a circle going from right to left), then 4 going around your partner, then 2 facing your partner (arms sweeping in a circle going from right to left) THEN REPEAT THIS WHOLE ROUTINE TWICE MORE At the end of the third time we finish with a farruca step. Farruca step = Rt (going backwards) Clap, Clap, Clap, Lt (going backwards) Clap,Clap, Clap. Then Rt backwards, Ls (in same place), Rt forwards, Ls (same place), Rs backwards, Ls, Rkick, then place R down softly, then Left in line with right foot, arms move outwards to approximately waist height, then down together and rise up through centre of body and finish with arms and hands outstretched above the head. END of DANCE.
BEGINNERS FANDANGOS This dance will be in three parts. Each part will end with a piece of footwork. this footwork is quite complicted but once it is mastered the same steps are repeated throughout the whole dance. It is worth perserving! Fandangos is on a beat of 12. Feet are on a diagonal - towards the left corner of the room ready for the right foot to do the first step. Introduction = Palmas for 2 compasses (2 x 12 beats finishing on 10 for 2nd, arms rise above the head) 1st step = starting with right toe going, in out, in out, in then place right foot down and bring left leg up and over (knee high), move right leg to just behind left Reverse this step starting with left going in out, in out. (this step is done a total of 6 times) 2nd step = Punteados in out starting right x 6 3rd Step = RS, RS then bring left up and over and join R then reverse step (again for a total of 6) Footwork - to follow
