Source: Jcs2000 A day out to see a private cricket game in a wonderful 360 Spider had an invite to go see a private cricket game on Mr Gettty's estate in Oxfordshire. I picked up a silver Ferrari 360 from supercar club Ecurie 25. this is not the best colour for this beautiful car - the light blue Ferrari I drove last year. However it did have a sports exhaust. See my main blog for the story and prictures of the 360 To comment on, or report this post follow the permalink aboveThe Ecurie Supercar collection

Source: Jcs2000 A few days with a Lambo!
Arriving at Ecurie we found the Gallardo in perfect condition - they seem to valet each car every time it's used. A quick run around the car and it's apparantly 90% Audi switch gear - very very easy to understand and use. This Gallardo is in a slightly metallic yellow which makes it shout a little - no where near the subtlety of the Ferrari 360 we got from Ecurie in the summer. We do, however, like loud :-). I must admit to being slightly fearful of the Gallardo before we got going - it's got nearly 500bhp and nearly as much torque. However the reviews I've read have been kind and I was to find out this was a super friendly supercar. Driving from the City to the M1 the first thing you notice is the Gallardo has firm but very noisy suspension at low speed with poor roads, make it a chore to drive slowly. However the good side was the very light clutch, great steering and forward and side visibility. No overheating or any issues in heavy traffic at all - Audi engineering showing its quality. At last onto the M1 and the first opportunity to get some revs in. So, turning onto the M1 in second and the pedal to metal. Christ. Bugger the noise (more of that later) the acceleration was a long hard, push in the back from 3000 rpm to 8000 rpm. I though the 400bhp Ferrari 360 was fast but wow you just run out of road so quickly..... Anyway we have couple of hours to play with up to Derbyshire so I got to push a little harder. Firstly the noise. This not the banshee wail of the 360. This is a deep throated growling V10. A slight push on the the throttle in 6th at 75mph produces a spine tingling growl that grabs the red blooded male in you. And that's just what you hear from the inside - other road users at that speed clearly hear it as well. The attention this car gets...more in a bit. BTW the other thing about the Gallardo is - bloody hell it's a good cruiser - at 100mph (so I'm told, of course) it's very very quiet on a good surface - no wind noise and only some lovely music coming from the V10. Comfy seats (although not as good as the Ferrari 360) and good ride at speed. We tried the stereo but the V10 was more interesting even than Queen. Into Derbyshire and we get to the corners. Takes me a good 20 mins to understand that this Gallardo just goes round bends. How you get it out of line in the dry (or even the wet) is behond me. It sticks like glue. Then I discover what motoring orgasms are made of. The open box of the Gallardo is a delight but going up the gears with the throttle open with the clunk clink of the box as you change gear is just - praise the Lord and Pass the Klennex!! What a performance/noise combination!!! Then there is the presence this thing has. It gets huge huge attention. We drove it through Chesterfield first and the whole place came to a standstill. On motorways people just stared and grinned - one guy leaning out of a window to take a pic. In Bakewell it got more attention the Bakewell Tart - people pointing and smiling. Interestingly the Ferrari 360 got more positive attention from women - the Gallardo got more attention from men. We took it to a car park the Peak District and came back to see around half a dozen people taking pics - i have a feeling those pics went viral in Derbyshire this weekend. Fischers Baswell Hall hotel is a delight - outstanding service, great wine list and lovely rooms - what a beautiful location - a shame we didn't eat in there Michelin star restaurant but my partner and I had had enough of fab meals entertaining clients in December. We did, however, have an excellent meal at Rowleys down in Baswell village. Next supercar from Ecurie is the Bentley Contintental GT - not my choice but my partners - we have to go see the Wicked Witch of the West - aka mother in law... Source: Jcs2000 4 days in the Ferrari 360 Spider Okay, I’m going to admit some bias here – I’ve always had this “thing” about Ferrari’s. I got my first one in 1993 – a 348 which was just awful, but I never let my enthusiasm diminish.
So this last weekend we had 4 days with a Ferrari 360 F1 Spider from Ecurie25. By the time we got to pick the car up at 10.00am my partner was accusing me of behaving like an over excitable child – fair cop. Now, I’ve always thought the 360 Spider is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The Ecurie version is in a silver blue and, my personal opinion, the best colour for it. I didn’t know whether to drive it or snog it. It is achingly beautiful. Having been shown around the car we loaded the luggage – surprisingly large boot space and good space behind those wonderful seats – I fired her (or is it him?) up. Click click whirr whirr snort snort – I whole symphony of noise even at tickover. A taste of things to come. Got into London traffic using the auto box – not going to play with the paddles until we get some open road. You absolutely feel very special, very significant in this car. It attracts huge amounts of attention even when the trickling along in traffic. Camera’s phones clicking, pointed fingers, grins, smiles and the occasional hint of jealousy – this car creates emotion. My partner took it all in her stride and did a fantastic impersonation of a footballers wife – rising to the occasion by painting her nails. Actually the 360 is easy to drive in town – much to my surprise. The steering is perfectly town balanced and the auto box works OK. Big word of caution – this car is a lot wider than you may be expecting – I scuffed the front wheel rim first time I parked it. With the roof off and the rear wind deflector up normal conversation is possible at 80. On to the M4 on the way down to Devon. Blue sky, hot sun and the smell of hot oil…..so there I am trickling along at 85 at 4,000 in 6th. Road opens out traffic thins…hit the left paddle and drop two gears, foot on accelerator and, oh my God, the noise. That Ferrari V8 just howls – I’m getting goosebumps writing about it now. Partner starts to object as I slow and then accelerate for the next 10 miles just to get that noise again, irritating aren’t I :-) But you realise how quickly the road runs out. This thing accelerates so hard I never managed the full rev range in more than two consecutive gear changes – you simply run out of space. I saw 130 – 140 on several occasions (Kilometres per hour) Get into Devon – if I thought the Ferrari made an impact in London it was nothing – children gawping and waving, people coming up to me in petrol stations wanting to know about the car - it was slightly embarrassing (I got to live with the reflected glory though). We pulled up outside a busy pub garden for lunch and the place came to a standstill. Couple of days in south Devon – not good for performance driving – too many cars. So up to the Cotswolds and the A40. The A40. A road built for a Ferrari, long curves, fast straights. Really really fast overtaking – accentuated by the paddle gear change. Going from 6th gear in 60 for an overtaking manoeuvre is much faster with paddles – simple three blips and your in 3rd. And the noise. I can still hear it. And then I found the tunnel that goes under the Park Royal roundabout. Slow down to 20mph at the entrance, 2nd gear, full throttle….2 days later I’ve still got that maniacal grin on my face This is not a car, it’s a living breathing animal. That noise…….
