Source: Big Boy The long hot summer hols (where you been?) will soon be over and a new academic year is almost upon us... The new school year is about to begin and I hope to begin my training to become a medical professional swanking around wearing crisp white lab coat struting about the wards and corridors with a stethoscope dangling from my neck. What's Up Doc?It all started last year when I was called a "non doctor" - some reference to my endless energy reserves I think - and in the heat of the moment I accepted the challenge to get medical training. Little did I realise how easily places are awarded at Medical School - I simply claimed I had four average grade A' Levels and put down amongst my interests and pastimes and interests as Rugger, Nurses, Beer and Hey Presto my acceptance letter from the Dartmoor Instant Medical School (DIMS) arrived by return post. All I need to do to guarantee my place for September is send three years fees £££ up front and show evidence of my commitment by producing a valid receipt for a cardiology grade stethoscope. My Stethoscope was a gift - No ReceiptWith the best intentions my good friend Hazel "pop in" Eyes bought a stethoscope as a congratulatory gift however not onlyhas the receiopt gone awol but it turns out that its a novelty doctors stethoscope - little wonder I was going around wrongly diagnosing friends as having no pulse. This blog from over the water suggests splashing out on a fancy new electronic stethoscope but when I checked with DIMS they said that they weren't aceptable as they were too good and all Doctors to be had to experience the poor sound quality of old fashioned steths before taking the easy route. Are there Jobs in the UK for Doctors?I do have a concren which may prevcent me from taking this path - that is what jobs are available to UK trained Doctors? The last time I was in a hospital I have to say there was a significant number of international staff at all levels and trends show more and more highly qualified medical staff are filling the vacancies on the wards.
