FEN RADIO : Sundays With Shaun Afternoon All, here's my blog, it's all about what goes on during my Sunday show on Fen Radio 107.5.
You alright everyone? Hope we're all fine for this Sunday afternoon. So whats been going on today during the show, well sit down, grab a cuppa tea and I'll tell you all about it. First feature of the day comes at Midday, It's called "The Midday Mass-Debate". A nice little thing we do every sunday, I choose a subject that has caught my eye in the news, out on the street or even in the papers, then I present my case and get all the wonderful people across the Fens to call/text/email in and tell me what they think about the subject. Today's subject was parenting and what would you do faced with the dilema that Carol Saldinack. She shopped her 2 sons to the police because they attacked Marc Parkinson on a night out causing him physical and mental damage. Marc was on a night out with a friend and they were attacked by Carols sons Luke and Oliver, they left Marc with extensive bruising and cuts, a perforated eardrum, bruised ribs and blind in one eye. Not only that he has suffered from depression and is scared to go outside in fear of another attack and in addition his business has failed plunging him and his family into debt. So ... we asked everyone, especially the parents, what would you do in this situation? And given the chance what would you say to Carol who shopped her own sons to the police? Ann was straight in on the phones and said "YES I would shop my kids, I have the faith that they would never do something like that, BUT IF they did, Iwould go straight to the police" She also said "Give Carol a medal for doing this". Next in was Kay on the text she said "Young people today don't have any respect for either the police or their parents. I would definatly do the same to one of my children. We need to go back to the values of the 50's. Ron called the show and said "I totally agree with everyone so far, BUT there are other people to blame too. Those Do-Gooders or PC Brigade, they've ruined it for parents because they've pretty much disarmed them from doing anything, you can't smack your kids or anything". He then went on to say that a little whallop never done him any bad, it made him understand whats right and whats wrong! In reponse Kate was next in and she said that she would shop her kids. BUT said that there are NO bad kids, just bad parents, Kate said that if children are bought up in the right way then they wouldn't ever do something like this. More and more views were coming in, but I couldn't possibly type them all down or else I'd have no fingers left, so I'll leave you with Wendy's text; "What a brave lady. I take my hat off to her and wish there were more people like her who are prepared to speak out" Next up on the agenda is my newest feature, it's called the 'HALF HOUR OF POWER', we play you 30 minutes of non stop new music, no ads, no news, just me, you and the tunes. Todays line up was; THE SUBWAYS - ALRIGHT Last weeks record of the week kicked us off on the rollercoaster that is the 'HHOP'. We played it last week because we love it so much. It's available to buy or download on the 16th June and then thier album follows on the 30th, thats called 'All or Nothing' THE COURTEENERS - NO YOU DIDN'T, NO YOU DON'T This weeks current record of the week, comes from Manchester lads 'The Courteeners', they've reached top 5 success with thei album 'St Jude' and this single comes straight from that. It's out on the 23rd June. PANIC AT THE DISCO - THAT GREEN GENTLEMAN (THINGS HAVE CHANGED) Panic are back without the '!', but they're still on top form, this single is the follow up to 'Nine in the Afternoon'. It's the 2nd single from the bands 2nd album 'Pretty . Odd'. The album's out right now and what a cracker. The single will be out to buy on the 9th June. THE WOMBATS - KILL THE DIRECTOR Brand new music from 'The Wombats' this one is a re-release, it peaked at 35 in the charts back in 2007, and they're aiming for bigger things this time around. It will be available to buy on the 7th July. ELBOW - ONE DAY LIKE THIS The anthemic Elbow were next with thier stripped down sound of 'One Day Like This'. Almost orchestral in places. A firm favorite of mine and it comes out tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to getting my copy, hope you will too. THE RASCALS - FREAKBEAT PHANTOM Three lads from The Wirrell have been around for just under a year and they're plainng an Album release this month and a single launch. The album called 'Rascalize' will be out later in the month, but the single will be out tomorrow. WEEZER - PORK AND BEANS They're back after a 2 year absence, this time with a self titled album, which the fans are calling 'The Red Album'. That's set for release June 16rd and the single will be out a week later. BLOOD RED SHOES - THIS IS NOT FOR YOU In the vein of The Ting Tings, this 2 piece are set for superstardom. Earlier in April they released a brand new album called 'Box of Secrets' and the single 'This is not for you' comes from that, it's set for release June 16th. So thats the 'HALF HOUR OF POWER', it'll be back next week, as will the Midday Mass-Debate and finally so will I. But for now I'm off, hope you like the Blog, hope you like the show even more.
