Blog: FEN RADIO : Sundays With Shaun

Sunday 11th May 2008, 3:27pm

Hello, this is my debut blog on here, Basically it's a Blog all about the bits and bobs that I do during my Radio show on a Sunday from 11am - 4pm ...

Good afternoon All.

My Name is Shaun Crerand, and I'm now using itsmymarket.com to use this as another tool to attract people to the radio show that I do on Fen Radio 107.5

I have been doing this slot for around 6 - 9 months and in the beginning it was something to really help me develop my skills as a presenter, since then I've tried to make this show MINE, because the presenter before me had a few little features that I then took on ... That was ok for the short term, but I didn't want it to be the same show just with another voice, I wanted it to have it's own identity.

So thats what I did, I've introdce 2 main features;

THE MIDDAY MASS DEBATE
+
THE HALF HOUR OF POWER

First of all, The Midday Mass Debate is as the tittle suggests, it happens at Midday and what we do is debate ... in mass. So each week we tackle the main subjects that rise up in the news that week. In other editions of this feature we've talked about all kinds of things, MORALS, MUSIC, PETROL PRICES, TROOPS, WAR and today we talked about FOOD

A report in the papers came out Friday that we (Brits) throw away £10 Billion worth of food, this new research shows we bin a staggering ...

1.6m bananas
550,00 chickens
1.2m bangers
5.1m Spuds
etc etc

Shocking I know ... So that was pretty mucht he question we was asking the people of the Fens.

Why are we wasting so much food?
How can we stop this happening?

First in on the phones was Kate in Wisbech, she said she hates wasting food. If anything she prepared/cooked wasn't eated by her then it would go straight to the dog. Kate also thought that people seemed to have lost the ability to cook or shop efficiantly, and we need more teachers to help our kids learn this dying trade.

Dianne was next in, but her oppintons came in via email, Dianne said - I don't throw away food, I think some blame must go to the lack of 'Home Economics' at school. Maybe if they had a subject on 'Basic Lifeskills', it could cover planning food shopping for a week, as well as all theose little things.

Other calls, texts and email came in from Keith, Lizzie, Brenda, Angela and Rachael, having their view, so much fun was had!

The next big feature I love to do is 'THE HALF HOUR OF POWER'

This feature is all about music, and new music at that, we play as many tracks as we can fit into a half hour period, it's all new and it's all good, if you don't believe me then listen to Fen Radio on a Sunday from 1.50pm, and I'll prove it to you.

Todays track listing is as follows;

Young Knives - Turn Tail
A former Record Of The Week, from their new album 'Superabundance', Turn Tail is available from May 19th

The Futureheads - Radio Heart
The current Record Of The Week, it's the Geordie bands second release from their brand new 'self released' album, 'This is Not The World', the single is out May 19th and the Album is out on 26th May.

Foals - Red Sox Pugie
Oxford lads 'Foals' release their 3rd single from their new album 'Antidotes', this single out for purchase on 26th May

The Zutons - Always Right Behind You
They're back, the band that brought you Oh Stacy! and mega hit (for Amy Winehouse) Valerie. This one is a perfect summer tune and it's being released on 26th May. It's taken from their brand new full length 'You Can Do Anything' which is out later, June 2nd.

Paramore - That's What You Get
US Pop Punkers Paramore are always being spouted across the air at Fen Radio and this tune is no acception, especially to the Half Hour of Power, The single is released tomorrow and it's the 4th UK single from the bands 2006 album 'RIOT!'

Weezer - Pork & Beans
Geek Rockers Weezer are back after 3 years with a brand new single and even newer album. The single has already made waves in the US after being available via download, but 'Pork & Beans' is sceduled for release on June 23rd.

Ting Tings - That's Not My Name
A lass and a guy make up pop rocking Ting Ting, being tipped for major commercial success when their majorly anticipated album called 'We Started Nothing' which come out later this month, the 19th May to be exact. 'Thats Not My Name' is out to buy tomorrow.

Story of the Year - Wake Up
The Single 'Wake Up' is out for your pleasure a week tomorrow, and it comes from the US Emo Bands brand new full length 'The Black Swan'

So, that was the Half Hour of Power and that beings me towards the end of this first blog of mine.
