Why isn't Watford Whatford?

English spelling eh - full credit to those not natives who master tha art of arranging letters to correctly spell a word.

I've just been trying to explain why the spelling of Whatford is wrong and that the place name is H less. The repetiion of the name set me thinking about the Hertfordshire town and as you would expect here are a bundle of links for you to explore the town yourself. Enjoy!
