Summertime and the immigrants are here.

Gulp

Forgot to mention that when I finally returned from the tedious Antiques Fair in Shepong Mallet I saw the latest immigrants whizzing around my house.

Yes in my opinion summer really does begin with the sightings of our feathered friends that have travelled from far away to enjoy our great British Summer.

Why do they return? What is it about summer in the UK that magnetically attracts these greedy gobbling birds?

Barbies - not toy dolls but the increasingly annoying take up of Australian lingo a haven for nasty gnats.

  • Home pools - those dreadful blue plastic efforts that are rolled out and waste an inordinate amount of water - soaking sunburnt flabbies can stare up at the myriad of insects smacking their little lips at the prospect of a quick nip on puffy flesh.
  • Dog muck on pavements present a veritable fly feast.
  • Overflowing litter bins offering sweet treats for worrying wasps.

As Keats wrote

"Oh swallow, I am but a fool

you midge munching fellow,

skim away from my pool.

Barbeque smokes, the fayre is nasty

It spits you swallow

Tum te tum te tum..Pasty"
