Pasty Muncher
Traditional Westcountry delicacies are facing oblivion as teenagers turn up their noses at regional dishes. Millions of teenagers have never even tasted a range of local culinary delights.Cornish pasties have fallen out of favour, fewer than one in five teenagers have tasted this rich delight. Instead, they're feasting on chips, pizza and burgers. It gets worse! As these youngsters grow up, many will not consider serving up pasties to their own families, consigning the pasty to the history books. As you know I loves munching Cornish pasties - but fear that traditional Westcountry dishes are losing popularity. The Muncher believes that The food industry is partly to blame for not promoting local food. saying: "An example of that is with pasties, everyone thinks all the worst cuts of meat are used when it's quite the reverse." Three years ago, Hartnell Fresh Foods made a concerted effort to attract younger customers and Mr Hartnell believes their success lies in educating them about the food they buy. "We take a lot of time talking to people and letting them know what's going in the food." It is once again noted that for all the crowing about kids eating healthy food and supporting local communities the restaurants of well known chefs have yet to introduce the pasty to their menus. Rick Stein has dabbled with the Pilchard Pie and can rustle up a mean tuna sandwich however Mr Oliver continues to steer clear of the Pasty at his Fifteen Cornwall beach cafe.
