In Cider Dealing - Van-tastic!

Cider ideas....

The French are once again complaining.

This comment was made by a soap dodging associate of mine on a national newspaper which asked - \"what's your best cider recipes?

Moules Marinières cooked in cider instead of white wine. Much much better!
When we used to visit my Granny in Dorset in the 70s (before it became Disneyland for City boys) we would drop in on a farm near Yetminster and buy a cubi of dry flat cider which we would drink with just about anything. This was my first introduction to alcoholic drink (age 13 or 14 I suppose) with meals. It was good stuff, even the cat drank it (out of a saucer) and it was in fact cheaper than milk - amazing what you can blame on the cat after a sip or two.

Importing Cider form the West Country to France

My associate continued...

I live in Paris where it is very hard to get good cider, most of tasting of nothing although with a pretty low alcohol content which isn't bad (it is deemed ok for chidren here).

By the way I notice Waitrose (Oh La La) own brand is highly perfumed and delicious tho at 7° quite strong. Getting out and about to the country where they make it is definitely the way to go.

Late in autumn we fly over to Exeter and hire a van. We combine a tour of the west country with sourcing the freshly made cider.

Van hire for profit

We can easily fill the van with a variety of ciders which we are legally able to take back over the channel on the ferry from Portsmouth.

Then here's the brillaint bit - return with a full van load.

Saint Malo to the South West - Gift Ideas

We know how crazy the English are on the run up to Christmas and for the return of the hire van we stuff it full of all the smoked meats, stale cheeses and mouldy garlic that are left over from our wonderful gastronomique boutiques and bring it to the UK for Continental Christmas markets where they are sanpped up as desperate last minute gift idea.

This year we hope to include a whole load of cheap but stylish lingerie - can't wait to see the looks of surprise when we explain that French women adore the musk of garlic and cured meats on their sexy lingerie - c'est bonne n'est-ce pas?
