Christmas - Give Over and over and over and over and over and over

\"Throughout the year, we shop meticulously for ourselves, looking at scores of items before choosing those that warrant spending our own money. The process at Christmas, by contrast, has givers shooting in the dark about what you like…

Who is brave enough to question all this gift giving madness?

Unwanted Gifts

I have received so many useless and unwanted gifts it is pathetic. I was the only one at my workplace who finally said “enough is enough” and “opted out” of the silly secret Santa. I grew up in a poor household so gifts were always needed and wanted things, but today most people have everything they want and need. Since I quit the gift madness I have time to cook, have people over and really enjoy a munching good holiday.

I watch my friends tie themselves up in knots trying to create a perfect Christmas through an onslaught of gifts. The kids are overwhelmed, can’t handle all the things arriving at once so they are spoiled, and the parents are disappointed by their kids not being thrilled, and that disappointment is heightened by the financial burden. It’s crazy, even if it weren’t opposed to the very spirit of what Christmas is supposed to be about!

Charity Christmas Cards and Gifts

In addition to sending charity Christmas cards the Muncher household looked at charity gifts and donated to charities on behalf of each family member and gave each person a card describing what their “present” bought for a needy person. Our

What began as a tradition of “giving” has been replaced by obligation, mindless tradition and capitalistic opportunities. No one looks forward to the stress of the holidays or having to shoot in the dark for appropriate gift
