Moving forward into the digital age.

After the epiphany of leaving dial-up internet connections and getting broadband behind last year I've been dazzled by the speeds I now have when online. I was enthusing about my super dooper connection speeds to an old chum who immediately made me feel that I was crawling around in the dark ages. He smuggly boasted that he had Wiffy throughout his house and was able to log on anywhere arond the home.

For a moment I was totally confused.com (tv adverts don't work) Why would I want to unplug all the cables and paraphinalia and shunt a monster desktop around just to continue surfing whilst on the bog?

"What you don't have a LAARRPTOP?!" he cried.

I felt the shame - the whole pub fell silent until a young un pointed and began laughing then the whole room collapsed with hysterical laughter. "Munchers still got a ruddy desktop - harr ahhaaaarrr" and another thing "he's static - not Wiffy - Yarr Harr Harrrrr"

Wifi - Wireless broadband

Once more into the mire. Clearly it seems the main benefit of being a laptop user is the mobility it offers. It turns out that you have to update your internet service to become Wifi - wireless. For once I was lucky - amazingly although the BT Option 1 I had was the cheaper broadband package it actually included wireless upgrade - a phone call to customer services and they sent me everything I needed to upgrade my system and I should now be able to surf anywhere within a 50 metre range of the wireless hub gizmo.

Imagine that - the limitations are endless - now all I needs is a laptop

Search for a laptop

Now even I haven't failed to notice the appearance of these slim sleek computers perched on laps on trains and in coffee shops however it hadn't occureed to me that anyone would choose to use on in the home.

What I wanted was something truely portable - so many laptops do seem to be bulky and heavy. The latest Apple MacBook Air seems to fit the bill however at over two grand methinks there's better value for money to be had. Theres been much hullaballoo about ultra portable notebook pcs lately and hunting around I did see some fantastic bargains - the Asus Eee PC being hailed as an ideal high spec yet cheap mobile computer.

Look at the Size of it - at barely 7 inches you could easily lose it beneath a pasty.
