Beware The Ides of March

I don't know what the "Ides" refer to - surely not the village on the outskirts of G'Exeter.

Weather Weather all together what's it gonna do? We don't know so let's just ask weather man Emu!

EBC1 with Rod Hull

I'm sure you'll all join me in giving a big round of applause for the super weather we've been enjoying recently. However as the saying goes "n'er cast a clout 'til May's out"

The sunshine and warmth has encouraged new shoots and buds on many plants and my first seedlings are popping up all over the place.

This is when the garden is at its most vulnerable. A sudden cold snap and it's Goodnight Mr Chips! I remember a late frost some years ago wreaking havoc with the garden. Early shooting perennials looked as though they'd been ginen a scorching with a flame gun, seedlings perished and fruit blossom vanished.

My advice is keep as much as you can under cover - the living room is very much like a garden centre at the moment, keep an eye on the greenhouse - long sunny days soon evapourate the moisture but close the door at night and if in doubt fleece anything you'd rather not perish.
