Source: Kim Mutton It hadn't even blown the bloomin' door off, which is the least you'd expect for some kind of terror attack. It wasn't us claim the Pasty Liberation Front. Capital City of Devon - Exeter - was rocked to its very foundations when a "device" went off in Giraffe. Shops and businesses had an unexpected half day closing following a mental health service user's mis hap with some chemicals and a couple of nails in the toilets of fat-food outlet Giraffe at the edge of the city's new Princesshay development. Amidst the initial confusion reports were of fatalities and heavy casualties as the "mega balst" rocked the city centre. The Pasty Liberation Front - one of whoms members iworks in offices on Southernhay adjacent to Giraffe - was quick to deny any invlovement with the organisation adding to its statement "we were a little puzzled that we didn't hear a peep at the time of the "explosion" yet watching the news pasty munching members of the public were claiming really loud bangs were heard as far away as the Odeon Cinema". Dirty Tricks - not our style"It is an obvious assumption that we would be looking to stop this sort of non-pasty fast food business but letting off fireworks in toilet cubuicles is definately not our style. We cannot condone the actions of this "bomber" although we may have shed the odd crocodile tear" Reports on This Isn't Exeter are more blunt: "It hadn't even blown the bloody door off, which is the least you'd expect for some kind of terror attack" Bomb Squad Land Rovers still on patrolFrivolity aside it is still a stark reminder that "it could happen" and the sight of an increased police presence in the city centre is un-nerving. And the old joke about "does my bomb look big in this" isn't the same round these parts. Source: Kim Mutton The fifth annual Contemporary Craft Fair on 6th to 8th June 2008. Contemporary Crafts or Over priced "Art"? Craft Fair Bovey Tracey Devon Another hot date in the tourist/holiday calender - the Devon Guild of Crafts (men and women) are again playing host to the Contemporary Craft Fair in the Guilds home town Bovey Tracey. The event attracts hundreds of designers and artists to exhibit and sell their work as well as lead masterclasses and workshops for visitors of al abilities. The admission is a reasonable £6 for adults and free parking quite rightly is available. The Good, Bad and Arty-FartyEven for a simple rural chap the craft fair experience is hardly the equivilent of Glastonbury but ironically attracts a large number of pretentious young erban media types who oh-my-gosh and golly WOW its just like simply amaaaaaazing there way around the stalls desperate to part with their money in a Harry Enfield "I saw you coming" style. Talking of festivals this Glastonbudget has to be worth a mention but I can find one thing the craft faire shares with Glastonbury - MUD Pasty Muncher HeavenThis year should see plenty of family friendly things to do during the craft fair - and if all else fails grab a proper pasty at the show ground or explore Bovey Tracey which has a disproportionate number of pubs for its size who I don't doubt will be happy to see their trade grow. heads up for:-

Bank Holiday Lustleigh May G'Day
Source: Kim Mutton All revved up and the Bentley disappoints again - Remember when the old Bentley played up spoiling an outing to Gnome World back in August last year well suffering sufferegets the old girl's only gone and done it again. You'll remember I was looking forward to a Bank Holiday full of outings and activities but right on cue - the blasted Bentley decided to install its own immobiliser and alarm. Land Rover Experience - On Yer Bike more like! So the off road experience day offer as advertised in Land Rover World magazine will have to wait for another day - ah well "they" say that the best part is the anticipation. Perhaps I should be grateful for the failure of the car - it made me remember they joys of gettting around on two wheels - yes the Muncher could be spotted peddling along the green lanes of Devon going about his business. So I managed to get to the Lustleigh Gay Day celebrations on Saturday AND avoid the parking swindle - word has it that the field owner rakes in half the take - how charitable. I was pleased to see this video up on Youtube - if you can bear to stand the first minute and a half of some village pasty muncher ding donging on about 'aaand bells. Trago Mills Home Furnishing EventA short bike ride away on the other side of the A38 (Devon Expressway) are the Towers of Trago and the first Bank Holiday in May sees the start of their fever pitch promotions of discounts on house and home ware. Ready Made Curtains, Blinds and Bedding all DiscountedI had recently been reading about the benefits of a good nights sleep on a healthy heart blog which highlighted a couple of things that would improve the quality and depth of sleep. Amongst the suggestions were
So you can imagine my delight to find that the Trago Event had just what I wanted on special offer. I returned home with the carry rack creaking under the wieght of new drapes. Pull yourself together muncher. To comment on, or report this post follow the permalink above Hurrah - Bank Holiday
Source: Kim Mutton Busy Bank Holiday Ahead - Lustleigh May Day, Off Road Land Rover Madness and a trip to Trago Mills. The first of May marks the true arrival of Spring in Devon - already the hedgerows and trees are in leaf and with a nice drop of rain and some warm air over the weekend we should be enjoying the verdant glory of the South West. Whats On - Bank Holiday in south devonTo mark the start of the tourist/holiday season Devon offers a huge range of outdoor activities for all the family. The truely incredible Gnome Reserve will open its gates and Trago Mills can expect bumper crowds of bargain hunters to descend throughout the weekend. Outdoor EventsAlthough the surf forecast is promising the water is really cold this time of year making so it is still necessary to wear a full winter wetsuit - which hardly seems fitting for the seasonal celebration. Lustleigh May DayRural Pole DancingOh how quaint - the chocoalte box village holds its annual pagan ritual during its May Day Celebrations - ritual crowning of May Queen the day is only made bearable when the Pole Dancing begins - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXzY7YhNvW0 Top tip - check out the local shop and grab some of their wonderful pasties to heat up properly later. 4x4 & Land Rover Offroad Events, Pay and Play Land Rover Days, Fundays ...This should be ideal - a chance to try before I buy...
