Norfolk Single Dad
Been writing for ages and we haven't even set off for the seaside yet! Well, we quickly mended Sam's magazine with the trusty sellotape (number 2), then we watched some of the current fave programme Hider In The House while Sam indulged in number 8 - Snack Time! One yoghurt, one banana and one juice later and we were about ready to set off, hoorah!
Sam went for a wee, then - by himself - took off his long trousers and put on his shorts. BY HIMSELF! Then we were off. Allowed 30 minutes to get to the bus, and we timed it to perfection. Sam had another wee at the bus station, then we went to wait for the 40 bus to arrive - embarrassingly, just before it was due, Daddy received the call of nature and we had to run to the loo, then run back, and JUST got the bus hee hee. Quite a few people around us in the queue were saying things like "Must be the right bus, they've got bucket and spade" etc. Amazing how "looking" like you know what you're doing inspires so much confidence in others.
The bus ride was fun, Sam tucked into his pickernicker and we spotted abandoned castles along the way. The "we know what we're doing" thing continued as a bunch of spotty teenagers asked us where to get off when we were coming into Hunstanton. Jumped off the bus, and headed down the hill towards the beach.
First stop a clothes shop where Sam homed in on a cammo baseball cap - good choice son, that will last you several years, and only a fiver!
There were quite a lot of folk around, but the beaches are so big that we had as much room as we wanted. Sam decided he wanted to find a few seashells for Mummy, so we wandered along looking for unbroken shells to put into the net. Then, for some insane reason, we took our shoes and socks off. I think it may have been because Sam waded into a pool in his shoes......anyway, the sand was quite warm after a few hours sunshine. The water however! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR doesn't cover it. It were freezing! After about half an hour we decided to put shoes and socks back on so sat down and used the towel (YAY well remembered Daddy!) to dry off and warm up our feet.
We walked up a ramp onto the prom and decided to go and "look" at the rides - I'd explained (worried that Sam would be upset) that Daddy was poor this week and we couldn't go on any rides, but we could look and decide which ones we wanted to go on next time. I was really humbled that Sam took it all so beautifully, and a few times told ME that we didn't have much money so couldn't go on any rides today. But we had a VERY good walk round the funfair, lots of very exciting rides to investigate in future, and Waltzers - which made Sam go into a long story-tell about our last go on the Waltzers, and laugh himself silly looking forward to going on them again. We have SO many rides to go on now! Not the Ghost Train though......
Then we thought we'd find an ice cream......headed off to find one but found a lovely little wooden obstacle course first, and Sam did four laps. He even managed a couple of parts where I thought he had no chance......we'll be going back there too! Found an ice cream stall, VERY foxy young lady behind the counter, and then spent 20 minutes perched on a bench watching people walk by (Sam included, very nosey/interested). Took the photo at the top of this entry too.
Then we strolled back along the prom and made our way to the bus station, where Sam absolutely charmed the pants off at least 8 people by deciding to sing The Tweenies theme tune (Hey Hey, Are you ready to play?) at top volume. He is such a ***** magnet! The bus trip back was via a different route, no idea how that works! But we went within 300 metres of the Queen's holiday house, which I think kind of impressed Sam.
Tea "should" have been spaghetti bolognaise, but I'd had a nagging doubt whether I'd taken the sauce out of the freezer. I hadn't, but it didn't matter because I hadn't taken the mince out either! Mister Muddle again. So Sam had to put up with another Emergency Happy Meal - Sarah gave him the same on Thursday! Ho hum, pooh happens.
The toys with Happy Meals right now are Teenage Turtles figures, so now Sam's castle has a turtle among the guards, as well as the knights, Bob the Builder's brother, an alien and some Farty Putty (don't ask). We rushed through bathtime so as not to miss any of You've Been Framed, which we watched huggled on the settee. Then all too soon it was "back to mummy's" time.
What a fantastic day we had, we were laughing together for so much of it. Sam's off to Grandma's church tomorrow, but then on Monday we're going banger racing! Sam is very excited about seeing the three-wheelers, the chained bangers and the caravans! Again, you're all invited to join us!
Night night Sam, love you. Spread the Word
