And I'm peeved that it took me this long to realise it!

We all need money to live, pay our expenses such as rent, TV licence, council tax, road tax etc. And then we all need to buy food, drink, clothes etc. And after that we use money for, basically, luxuries.

I am hoping to start nursing training in September, and for 3 years I will be pretty hard up......but does that mean I'll be miserable too? At times, without doubt, yes! But on the whole, no.....

I just walked to the shop, and on the way back popped into The Woolpack for a solitary homeward pint. The way people in there reacted to me has completely made my day. You walk in and five or six people say hi, how are you. Order a drink and a couple more folk exchange greetings. Then you have a chat with one or two people you know a bit better. On the way from the shop I'd spotted Old Bob in his new wheels (boy racer at HIS age!!!), and he almost followed me into The Woolie. We haven't chatted for bloody ages, which is a shame because Bob's a very intelligent man with a lot of knowledge to pass on. I had a conversation with Debbie and Ian, landlady and landlady, about The Masters golf tournament (got a bet on Justin Rose to win at 33/1), plus a few other things. A colleague from my Bespak days came in with his lovely missus and we had a quick chat, lovely. DJ J's family are visiting from Livingston in Sweatie-land, and they're nice too.

So. The point of this is that money isn't necessary to a fulfilling life. Right now I am SO happy with my lot. Yup, I am a part-time cleaner, so what? It's friends and family that make your life better, and I am very lucky to have lots of great people in both categories. Trying to make the world a slightly better place with a few hours each week helps too. All in all I am very lucky. Poor in money? Yes. Rich in life? Definitely.

The thing that made me write this post was Old Bob's last comment as I departed the Woolpack. "Come in more often so we can talk." I'm a lucky man.
