Norfolk Single Dad
A while ago I sought inspiration from the radio when a recipe was not going well.....did the same again last night with surprising consequences..... A couple of weeks ago I asked BBC Radio Norfolk DJ Kirsteen Thorne for a few words of encouragement when my first ever attempt at pigeon pie was in its "difficult" early stages. Kirsteen came up trumps and the pie was a total and utter (and delicious) success.
So to last night. I was trying out the prototype version of my own invented recipe, and felt in need of some moral support.....so contacted the evening presenter, Sue Marchant, hoping for a "Good luck Simon" or summat similar.....oh no! The voluptuous Sue decided to invite me onto her show to describe what I was cooking and how it was going. Well, in itself, THAT was hair-raising enough, next minute I was lined up for a three-way chat with Sue, and celebrity chef Ed Baines. ZOINKS! It went well for me, I didn't swear, and Ed Baines confirmed that Tara Palmer-Tompkinson really is gorgeous in real life (so ner-ner ner-ner-ner to the unbelievers). He also suggested an accompaniment for my creation, shredded savoy cabbage, lemon juice, and maybe small new potatoes - sounds great. Plus he suggested that would be better served in slices on top of this as opposed to in a whole "roll".....and to maybe leave out the cheese!
What Did I Cook?I made something that has to be filed under "unhealthy comfort food"! To sum it up, it's a belly pork slice, with a pork sausage sliced lengthways and both halves placed under the slice. On top of the slice is a large amount of diced apple and mushroom, and the whole thing is wrapped in good quality bacon. Baked for 30 minutes in foil, then grilled for 5 minutes to perk up the bacon wrapping. VERY filling and very tasty, even if I do say so myself!
What Is It Called? So now I need a name for my "creation". Got three ideas, but open to more. Let me know which you prefer: "Posh" name - Marchant-Baines Meaty Roulade "Medium" Name - Pork & Apple Roly-Poly "Down to earth" Name - Norfolk Meatloaf What do you think? Spread the Word
