A Bank Holiday Sunday, a beer garden, lots of sunshine and some lovely real ale......recipe for a hangover!

I decided to actually DO something for a change, and when me and Sam were on the way home from Hunstanton I spotted a small beer festival in the little village of Heacham. So Sunday came and I jumped on a number 40 bus along with lots of other people who were heading for the beach at Sunny Hunny. It took ages to get to Heacham, the Bank Holiday traffic was atrocious and the bus kept conking out due to a dodgy gearbox. I got off at the stop directly opposite the pub - the Fox & Hounds (see pic). Anyway, I decided to record the day's events in a notebook, so here is the full, unabridged story:

1131 Leave home.

1140 Buy NOTW from newsagent (rivetting read so far eh?)

1153 Off we go!!

1257 Off the bus - opposite the pub! Pint of Adnams Broadside, just as I remember it, delicious.

1303 Argh!! All tables out front of pub taken, how inconsiderate. Asked landlord - more out the back hoorah! "If there aren't any just take a chair from in here outside." Nice.

1328 Peak Ales "Swift Nick", returned to beer garden, huge hairy hell's angel - complete with battered helmet - sitting at my table. No worries, guess no-one else will move in and I don't mind sharing. BIG contrast, me, smart PINK shirt, short neat haircut, biker with long hair, dirty leather jacket, straggly beard etc. Beer was "hoppy"!

1401 Fox & Hounds have their own micro-brewery - pint of Fox LJB (Little John Bristow, landlord's grandson).

1415 Change of scene, moved into the red and white tent, too much sun is bad for you. More to the point, two huge families arrived and I didn't want them to have to hide indoors! They need a "table for six" more than I do.

1437 Jaipur Pale Ale (Thornbridge Brewery - Derbyshire!). Lovely light colour, summery taste, very nice. Why Jaipur?

1510 Another Jaipur plus request for bus timetable - got given The Heacham Newsletter.

1515 Police siren - cop car races past. Must be unusual here as everyone moves to windows to have a look. Not like KL!

1517 Spot a famous footballer with his mates.

1527 Old couple with "Trickywoo" kind of dog, looking after grandchild (7/8 months old?). Drinking pints, at least 3 each. Does the kid's parents know? Doubt it.

1539 Uh-oh. Decide to take on pub quiz machine.

NOTE : At this point my writing is getting pretty difficult to read!

1555 No wins yet. Another Jaipur. Ignored several £1/£2 wins to press on. WRONG!

1609 England doing well at cricket, 142-2.

1652 At bus stop (168-4).

1701 Still waiting!

1704 Dash into pub for a wee.

1718 Still waiting, must be the Bank Holiday traffic.

1721 BUS! Yay, at last.

1808 Off the bus opposite Tesco.

1810 Just seen another Ferrari, 2 in 2 days, weird.

And there it ends! I went into the Woolpack on the way home to top up the real ale with some real chemicals in the form of Fosters. Old Bespak buddy Noel came in with his missus, lovely to see him. Actually, I probably saw two of him....I was verrrrr, verrrrr drunk.
