Try Off Roading on the cheap.

Landrover Envy

It was with some jealousy that I read about a Hassle's land rover experience - its often occured to me that as a man of the land I too should sit high and mighty in a classic Land Rover and fear not the slippy sloppy mud bath of my damp patch.

After watching short videos like this rocking Land Rover Defender in action it has been an ambition to have a go in a 4x4 and see if my expectations are met. However the cost for half a days "official landrovver experience" is far more than I'll earn flogging any surplus beans, courgettes or cucumbers this summer.

The 'LandRover World' Show

Then whilst searching the web for "land rover off road test centres" i found a short post about the Landrover World Show.

Land Rover 'World' is one of many magazines dedicated to the brand. Each year they hold an annual fair to showcase Land Rovers and hope to get new susbscribers and enthusiasts alike fired up by offering a wide range of events over the course of the two day event including . . . off road test drives in all of the range of vehicles.

Drive a Freelander for Free

The test drives are accompanied by off road experts and will take you into soem of the very best off-road tracks in Britain - the countryside surrounding Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire.

The chance to experince off roading in a land rover is "free" however a modest donation to the various charities that the event supports would be welcome. The Ferret Sanctuary is a well worthy cause.

Other than the Defender the Freelander has a certain appeal - a compact quality SUV that sets it apart from its more glamorous cousins Discovery and the hulking Range Rover.

Why the Freelander?

This is what the Independent's panel of motoring reviews said about the Freelander and following further development EuronCap awarde the Freelander safety features five stars.

Get there early to avoid disappointment - camping is available if you want to make an early start. The Land Rover World Show is 7th and 8th June.
