It is unfortunate when someone as young as eighteen already experiences back pain. The pain at the back is almost always viewed as a problem amongst the elderly perhaps because of several advertisements featuring old men and women who display hump-shaped backs or who act irritated because they have to deal with old age and back pain is undeniably one of the most common sign.

Nonetheless, there are several different reasons why individuals complain about back pain. What is important is to be able to know the reasons behind the pain which will consequently lead to effective prevention as well as treatment. What is ultimately important is that you should know that your backbone is prone to injury and pain and that the bones in it play a vital role in your everyday life. Once you are stricken with back pain, personal and professional life will be greatly affected. Anyhow, determine the cause, do something about it and eventually, get rid of it forever.

How do you usually sit or stand? Do you slouch? Are your feet flat on the floor? Do you assume uncomfortable positions? Posture plays a big part when it comes to back pain. This is because the way you position yourself will cause straining and put a lot of stress in your muscles and nerves. Additionally, poor body mechanics when it comes to lifting objects, carrying heavy loads or simply doing your exercise regimen using wrong techniques will also cause you a lot of straining.

Therefore, to avoid back pain, remember to sit and stand up straight; check your seat whether it is able to facilitate good posture or not. Take advantage of gravity and modern equipment when you are asked to move objects. Of course, common sense will definitely help. When you are to lift objects, make sure to bend your knees while keeping your back straight. Bending from your waist, reaching for objects that are far from you and twisting will make up for a bad back.

Obesity is also a factor. It is a good idea to shed off some pounds for you not to stress your backbone. Taking a rest while working will absolutely help especially if your job entails standing or sitting for long hours. If you are already suffering from such condition for a relatively long time, taking a break from the work should be considered. In addition, light to moderate activities are still highly suggested as the back pain will be worse if you stayed in bed. Alternately applying cold and warm packs could be relievers apart from the pain medication advised by the doctor.

More serious problems or conditions also happen when one suffers from back pain. These could be due to infection, diseases and conditions such as kidney stones, menstruation or urinary tract infection and underlying muscle or bone problems. Seeking consultation is the best way to determine the exact source of the problem. The doctor shall be responsible for advising remedies to back pain.
