Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Anthony Calvillo threw a pair of second-half touchdowns as his Montreal Alouettes earned a come-from-behind, 33-23 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos at Commonwealth Stadium. Wes Welker Youth Jersey . Calvillo completed 19-of-30 passes for 237 yards for the Alouettes (1-1), who are the defending Grey Cup Champions. Ricky Ray threw for 340 yards and a touchdown for Edmonton (0-2), but the signal caller tossed two costly interceptions in the second half. Trailing 23-11 late in the third quarter, Montreal scored three unanswered touchdowns to close out the contest. The defense came and played and kept them out of the end zone, Calvillo said. We werent moving the ball that great, and they gave us a chance by creating those turnovers. We were able to capitalize and come away with a big victory. First, the Alouettes cut their deficit to five points on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Calvillo to Brian Bratton. The Alouettes remained hot in the fourth quarter, as Jerald Brown intercepted a pass and raced 22 yards for a touchdown. A two-point conversion gave Montreal a 26-23 lead. Then, with just over eight minutes left in the game, Calvillo threw a six-yard touchdown strike to Kerry Watkins, pushing the lead to 33-23. Edmonton never recovered. We came out, we played hard, we made a ton of plays. We just didnt capitalize when we needed to, Ray said. Offensively, we kicked a lot of field goals. That just came back to bite us in the butt. Montreal opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest on a 45-yard field goal by Damon Duval, capping a six-play, 37-yard drive. Edmonton had a chance to tie the score at 3-3 with 9:19 remaining in that opening quarter, but Derek Schiavone missed a 37-yard field goal. Duval added a single with 7:32 to make the score 4-0, but the Eskimos took the lead on a big play less than two minutes later. At the six-minute mark, Ray tossed a 43-yard touchdown pass to Fred Stamps, giving Edmonton a 7-4 advantage. The Eskimos held that three-point lead at the end of the first quarter, as well as a 186-61 advantage in total yards over the Alouettes. Early in the second quarter, Edmonton drove 87 yards in 12 plays, and while the Eskimos were unable to get into the end zone, they pushed their lead to 10-4 with an 11-yard field goal by Schiavone. Montreal grabbed an 11-10 lead with 9:51 left in the first half, as backup quarterback Ricky Santos reached the end zone on a quarterback sneak from two yards out on a third-and-inches play. That touchdown was the first in the CFL career of Santos. On the ensuing Edmonton drive, Schiavone got an opportunity to avenge the earlier 37-yard field goal misfire, and he booted the ball through the uprights from that same distance, giving his Eskimos a 13-11 edge. After an impressive defensive series, the Eskimos again drove deep into Montreal territory. The team had to settle for a field goal once again, as Schiavone converted an 11-yard chip shot. With just over three minutes remaining in the second quarter, the score stood at 16-11 in favor of the home team. Edmonton carried that five-point lead into intermission. Ray passed for 237 yards in the opening half, while both Stamps and Kelly Campbell had over 100 receiving yards. Campbell dropped a touchdown pass early in the third quarter, and the Eskimos settled for a 29-yard field goal by Schiavone that pushed the lead to 19-11. Schiavone then added three more points with a 12-yarder on the teams next possession, giving Edmonton a 22-11 edge with 6:28 left in the frame. The Eskimos added a single, but things fell apart for the home team. The defending World Series champs are 57-40 at the All-Star break. \"For the next three days, its like youre traveling,\" Boston manager Terry Francona said. \"On a travel day, it makes the travel better, things like that. Were kind of in a fight with ourselves to see how good we can play. We do that and well take where we end up.\" Matsuzaka (10-1) surrendered just four hits while walking five and fanning seven en route to the win for the Red Sox, who have won five of their past six games overall. J.D. Drew had a run-scoring double while Dustin Pedroia finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Pedroia upped his hit total to 124, one shy of the club record before the All-Star break. Both Wade Boggs (1987) and Nomar Garciaparra (2003) had 125. After Jacoby Ellsbury walked to load the bases, Pedroia grounded into a fielders choice to make it a 2-0 game. The Os werent able to muster much offense until getting to Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth. After the closer opened the inning by getting pinch hitter and former Red Sox Kevin Millar to pop out, things got messy. Roberts and Jones collected back-to-back singles and Papelbon went to a 3-2 count on the dangerous Nick Markakis. A 98-mile rising fastball sent Markakis back to the dugout but Huff followed with an RBI single up the middle. With the go-ahead run on base, Melvin Mora hit a soft liner to Pedroia that ended the game. Despite the trouble, Papelbon picked up his 28th save on the year and the 100th of his career. \"Both sides dodged a lot of runs, fortunately we dodged one fewer,\" Francona said. \"You look up in the ninth and you havent given up any runs. Thats not the way you draw it up, but we still didnt give up anything. Pap held on and we won, which is better than losing.\" Notes: Red Sox All-Star Kevin Youkilis left the game with a left triceps contusion after getting hit in the arm by a Daniel Cabrera pitch in the fifth inning. Youkilis, who had a grand slam and a career-high six runs batted in during Saturdays 12-1 Red Sox win, was replaced at third base by Jed Lowrie.
