Australian Lleyton Hewitt reckoned his young daughter

MELBOURNE, Australia - Australian Lleyton Hewitt reckoned his young daughter would be waking up by the time he got home. Robinson Cano Jersey . Playing at the Australian Open had just turned into the overnight shift. Just about everything that could go wrong with the schedule did Saturday, thanks to rain and long matches. There was plenty of great, dramatic tennis, including a riveting near-upset of top-ranked Roger Federer of Switzerland. Some thought it was just too much of a good thing. Hewitts match against Marcos Baghdatis didnt start until 11:47 p.m. and ended at 4:33 a.m. local time, when the 15,000-seat Rod Laver Arena was only about one-third full and most TV sets around Australia had long been turned off. Hewitt won 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-3. Organizers found themselves caught in the middle by conflicting demands and interests. But other than what they called a miscommunication, which led Hewitt and Baghdatis to think the first night match between Venus Williams and Sania Mirza was getting moved or postponed, they defended their actions. Tournament director Craig Tiley said they made absolutely the right decision. That is tennis, said tournament referee Wayne McEwen. You cannot pick the length of a match. Added Tiley: We received texts and notes from people around the world just loving the tennis. It was a late night for everyone, but it was certainly worth it, seeing such unbelievable tennis. The rain that forced postponement of matches on outside courts didnt really affect what happened in Rod Laver Arena, where the retractable roof was closed. Three day matches were scheduled, starting at 11 a.m., with two night matches planned to begin at 7:30 p.m. Anna Chakvetadze and Maria Kirilenko went three long sets, followed by Fernando Gonzalez and Marin Cilic, who played four. Things were running a tad long, but not bad if Federer, who had dropped only six games in six sets in his first two matches and hadnt lost a set here since his 2006 final victory, was as quick as usual. Federer wasnt at the top of his game, while 49th-ranked Janko Tipsarevic played the match of his life. It was thrilling stuff, but Tiley and McEwen were scrambling as four sets turned to five. It was a strange night, Hewitt said. We actually got told that the womens match was getting moved, that we were going to be on pretty much at 9 p.m. So we sort of rushed off, both Marcos and myself, and went and practised and warmed up for about 10 minutes. At the same time, Tiley went to talk with Williams and Mirza, asking if they were willing to move to Vodafone Arena, which also has a roof, or wait until Sunday to play. They declined, clearly unhappy at the prospect of losing the centre court experience or deferring to the men. We felt like our match was important, Williams said. We also felt like we wanted the schedule to go as planned. We are very good players and wanted to play. Baghdatis and Hewitt agreed they would go ahead with their match unless Williams-Mirza went three sets, at which time they would postpone to Sunday. Once Federer rallied to win at 9:30, arena workers began cleaning up garbage from the day session, and fans streamed out. Twenty minutes later, people with tickets for the night session started filing in and were still taking their seats when Williams opened a straight sets victory over Mirza. Then on came Hewitt and Baghdatis. The sun was coming up as the players and officials finally left Melbourne Park. When I drove home, it was just to take a shower and come back, ready for some great tennis again today, Tiley said. Ben Zobrist Jersey . \"I just go out and snatch the ball,\" Blair said. \"I just go out there and try to get every rebound for my team. I call the ball the money. If I go out and get the money, were going to win. Rebounding the ball is how you get points. Tim Tebow Womens Jersey . Danis made 31 saves in his first appearance of the season, and Dainius Zubrus scored with 1:26 left to lead the Devils to their sixth consecutive road victory, 2-1 over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Andre Johnson Jersey . Phil Di Guiseppe of the University of Michigan and Philip Danault of the Victoriaville Tigres assisted on Stones goal. Gormleys was scored on an empty net when White pulled goalie Tyler Bunz for an extra attacker. five fingers outlet .J. - Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias scored in the shootout and Martin Brodeur made an outstanding glove save on Alex Ovechkin as the New Jersey Devils, after blowing a three-goal lead in the third period, beat the Washington Capitals 4-3 Friday night. Houston Texans Nike Jersey . The 25-year-old has registered 19 points in the last 20 games playing pivot for Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul on the Leafs first line.LONDON -- England coach Fabio Capello plans to drop captain John Terry for Saturdays friendly against world champion Spain, but stressed the defender retains his support during a police investigation into alleged racism. Capello has assured Terry that he will return against Sweden four days after England hosts Spain, but his accusers brother, Rio Ferdinand, will not be in the squad for the double-header when it is named on Sunday. While not commenting on Terrys alleged racial slur against Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, Capello claimed his experience in English football had shown \"racist problems between the players do not exist.\" The police probe is overshadowing the buildup to key matches in Englands preparations for the 2012 European Championship. It took a meeting on Friday between Capello and his bosses at the English Football Association, which is conducting its own probe into Terry, to determine if the centre back would be in the squad. Capello then went to Chelseas training ground to offer Terry his support. \"He is innocent until proven guilty,\" Capello said. \"I spoke to him, he will be in the final squad. We decided on this -- the FA and us together ... there is no problem with John Terry at this moment. We need to wait what will happen about the FA investigation and the police investigation.\" Video of Terry appearing to direct a racial slur at Anton Ferdinand during Chelseas match at London rival Queens Park Rangers last month was this week sent by broadcaster Sky Sports to the police. \"I never see, I never heard, I never found racism problems in England football -- OK,\" Capello said of his own experiences. \"The fans never boo. Never. Racist problems between the players do not exist.\" Such is the sensitivity of the investigation, the FA and police had to discuss whether Capello would be able to talk about Terry during a round-table with journalists. Having indicated that Terry would be rested for the Spain match at Wembley Stadium, Capello insisted: \"That would only be for football reasons.\" \"I dont know if he will play because I need to see players because there will be injuries and suspensions -- he was happy,\" Capello added. \"I know the value of Johnn Terry, but I want to check the value of the other players. Adam Jones Jersey. \" Singling out Joleon Lescott, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka and Phil Jones, Capello added: \"We have a lot of centre backs, I want to see something (different) during the game against Spain.\" Capello said Terry would play at least half of the Nov. 15 match against Sweden -- and he will still lead the team. \"He is the captain, it is important,\" Capello said. \"Now he had some problems, but I think he needs to wait for the result of the investigation.\" The potential of having Anton Ferdinands brother in the squad has been avoided by Capello citing Rios lack of recent action. Capello explained this to Ferdinand, whom Terry regained the captaincy from in March after losing it over a sex scandal before the 2010 World Cup. \"Rio is not in the squad because he is not in a good moment of form,\" Capello said. \"Its not an excuse. Its real what happened. He needs more games.\" The other United player missing from the squad is Englands biggest star, Wayne Rooney, who has been banned for the three Euro 2012 group stage matches after petulantly kicking a Montenegro opponent in the last qualifier. Although England is appealing to UEFA, Capello still wants to assess other strikers against Spain and Sweden. Englands lawyers and outside experts are analyzing UEFAs four-page report into the incident as it forms the appeal. \"Rooney is a great player, very generous on the pitch,\" Capello said. \"Sometimes these eruptions happen with players. Normally its really good but this happens.\" Rooneys absence hinders Englands chances of a morale-boasting win against Spain. \"Its a risk (leaving him out), but it will be very important to understand the value of the other players,\" Capello said. \"It will be a real big test for Englands ambitions.\" Capello judges Spain to be one of the best-ever teams thanks to its \"new football style.\" \"The base of the team is from Barcelona and the mentality of Barcelona is to go forward, to win back the ball quickly,\" Capello said. \"They moved the style from Barcelona to the national team ... (but) it is a big mistake to copy this style.\" ' ' '
