A Silly Gift for Silly Billy

Source: Current Affairs Blog
Thursday 28th August 2008, 12:53pm

Silly Gifts are all the rage - novelty underwear, comedy aprons - when Silly Billy announced he was hoping to join a medical school it was time to find a novelty gift for him.

So I see Billy aspires to become a Doctor - Lord help us - I don't doubt he'll look the part but there is a wee concern about his bedside manner but that hasn't stopped me searching for an appropriate silly gift that will bring a smile to his face when pouring over medical text books.

Gifts For a Doctor - Littmann Stethoscope

My searches for [doctor gifts] disappointingly returned many results for Dr Who merchandise and eventually I came across this Stethoscope Tie which I'm sure would impress the nurses as it shows that even the most serious professions can be brightened up.

Thinking that this would appear to be too sarcastic I thought I ought to check out the professional stethoscopes that would be of practical use in medical school. This blog post selecting a stethoscope recommends following medical forums where there will be unbiassed opinions and it turns out that the favoured model is the Littmann Cardiology Stethoscope. However at around a hundred pound it didn't go in my basket - sorry Billy Boy its just the tie.

Useful Gifts for a new academic year

Then I remembered that Billy Boy wasn't the only one off to begin college studies - my nephew had his exam results not long ago and is due to begin a course.

He spent a few days with us during the summer and helped out with some jobs that had been put off for far too long and it seemed appropriate to repay his hard work for the jobs well done.

Rather than add to a studens beer fund I thought a fair reward for the jobs he completed would be a laptop computer.

Choosing a laptop - where do you start?

This laptop buying guide was helpful but again I found it helpful to read what others thought. A flurry of blog post all helpedthe decision - Slasher Travelos suggested Toshiba and the laptops these women adore is their Bapples. However small is beautiful when it comes to laptops Edwardd argued and suggest the ultra portable, fully loaded Asus eee pc would be ideal for the reckless treatment a student is likely to give and cheap too.
