So the Beijing Olympics is over and handed over to London for he 2012 games. How is this going to affect visits to London and job prospects over the next four years?

Construction has already started on the Olympic stadium in London's East End in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games.

UK Jobs For Locals

Targets have been set at between 10 - 15% of the construction workforce to be taken from the five host buroughs of Hackney, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets, Greenwich and Newham. So far these targets have been exceeded with20% coming from these London Boroughs - 10% having been previously unemployed.

Are Sustainable Jobs A Reality?

Overall 11,000 sustainable jobs have been promised to the area, which is good news for a struggling construction industry, if those promises are kept. The construction workers union, UCATT claim that agencies simply use the easiest and cheapest methods, resulting in many migrant workers being employed cheaply and exploited with long working hours.

Only time will tell if the London Olympic targets will be achieved, or whether they will just be swept under the rug and forgotten about.
