Things that Pop into my Head
The UK Government has launched a new website to explain how climate change is affecting the planet. Launched by Chief Scientific Advisor Professor Sir John Beddington, Climate Science is now part of the Department for Business Innovation & Skills website. Apparently the idea is to try and convine the skeptics by explaining where evidence is well established and where findings remain uncertain, but having looked at it, I'm not sure its going to work. As far as the big climate change news goes, this is a bit wordy. I'm actually quite interested in the subject, but I found my eyes glazing over quite quickly unfortunately. It seems to be written by a scientist (or collaboration of them), for scientists. There's not much there for ordinary members of the public to get their teeth into. Even the graphs are littered with scientific notation and formulas. It might be ok for those in academia to discuss, but if the idea was to talk around Mr & Mrs Joe Public, I'm not sure it'll be that successful. Plus the fact its quite well hidden in the bis.gov website anyway.
