Blog: Things that Pop into my Head

I'm jetting off to sunnier climes for a week. Looking forward to exploring a new place, relaxing and finally getting a tan.

We decided to leave booking our holiday until quite late in the hope of getting a good deal. I much prefer looking round the internet than going into a travel agents, they scare me slightly. I ended up using lastminute.com - you can book online unlike teletext where you have to ring up, stay on hold for 10mins then get told its gone anyway.

The other daunting thing is reading reviews of hotels, I know people are more likely to write about bad experiences than good ones, but its still a bit offputting reading about sewage smells and wasps nests.

I finally found a hotel in the Algarve that not only looked great, but is also in a fairly quiet region, had nothing but good comments about it and was within our budget. Snapped it up and booked online, then less than 2hours later the nice lady from the actual travel agent phoned back to confirm. It also turned out that the filghts are nice times too - afternoon/early evening.... I'm glad about this cos I remember when we went abroad a few years ago we had to get up at ridiculous o' clock for the trip back.

Everything is sorted now I think - travel insurance, the EHIC cards (replacement for the E111), tickets should arrive very shortly. I was also slightly concerned about missing Aikido practice as there was a grading coming up, but thats sorted too as we had it on Friday and everyone passed :-)
