Source: hazel eyes The UK Government has launched a new website to explain how climate change is affecting the planet. Launched by Chief Scientific Advisor Professor Sir John Beddington, Climate Science is now part of the Department for Business Innovation & Skills website. Apparently the idea is to try and convine the skeptics by explaining where evidence is well established and where findings remain uncertain, but having looked at it, I'm not sure its going to work. As far as the big climate change news goes, this is a bit wordy. I'm actually quite interested in the subject, but I found my eyes glazing over quite quickly unfortunately. It seems to be written by a scientist (or collaboration of them), for scientists. There's not much there for ordinary members of the public to get their teeth into. Even the graphs are littered with scientific notation and formulas. It might be ok for those in academia to discuss, but if the idea was to talk around Mr & Mrs Joe Public, I'm not sure it'll be that successful. Plus the fact its quite well hidden in the bis.gov website anyway. To report this post follow the permalink above Fashion Show for Normal Women
Source: hazel eyes High street retailers including New Look and Marks & Spencer will be participating in a fashion show to showcase 'real women'. Instead of 'size zero' models, The Look Show at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea will include size 14 models such as Crystal Renn. The show coincides with the start of Londaon Fashion Week and features women's clothing from this year's autumn/winter collections. 'The show is about emphasising more realistic models with healthier-looking bodies,’ said a spokesman for New Look. ‘Over the past two years the fashion industry has begun to reconsider the shape of models but to have a size 14 is groundbreaking on a catwalk.’ Usually only models of size 6 to 8 are found on catwalks, which is considerably smaller than the average woman out shopping. A spokesman for M&S said: ‘We’ve been very supportive of this. Fashion is becoming more accessible and this show reflects that.’ The show has also attracted other retailers, such as Oasis, French Connection and River Island. After the show, the featured clothing will be available for sale. To report this post follow the permalink aboveThinking About Christmas Hampers
Source: hazel eyes Its nearly that time of year again when we start to think about Christmas gifts. As we most definitely move into the latter part of the year, our thoughts turn to what we might want for Christmas and along with that, ideas for present giving. Presents for family, at least mine are fairly easy - we either agree not to bother, or if there's something someone particularly wants, put some cash towards it. For corporates, however, its a little more complicated. The reward must fit the relationship and whilst gift baskets containing wine and chocolates are a firm favourite, times have changed. Individuals are more likely to receive an iPod or experience day for example. The same can be said for clients or customers. A well thought out gift should expand a relationship and acknowledge their business and loyalty. Letting the intended recipient choose from a list avoids many potential pitfalls. Giving a gift to someone that doesn't celebrate Christmas, meat to a vegetarian, or wine to a teetotaller are some of the easiest ways to cause offence and potentially damage business relations.
