Not Good News Saturday

Source: hazel eyes
Tuesday 28th August 2007, 3:24pm

Got a phonecall from my dad Saturday morning, my sister was involved in an accident and had broken her leg...

She lives in Slough so its not like its just up the road from Exeter, and even further away from Cornwall where our parents live. She'd phoned them sometime early Saturday morning, but didn't really make much sense as she was still in shock understandably.

To cut short a long story of phonecalls and waiting for news, what happened was that around 9pm Friday night, she was crossing the road when a taxi pulled out and hit her, knocking her into the opposite lane. He/she then stopped, but then drove off! Luckily it happened outside a pub and lots of slightly drunk people came out to help and someone got the license plate of the taxi.

She was taken to A&E with an open fracture and had to wait until 2am to be seen, unbelievably. She then had an operation to pin it back together in the afternoon - both tibia and fibia were broken. Luckily the only other injury she sustained was scratches to the arm she landed on, years of martial arts training saved her from more serious head injuries when she landed.

Hopefully today (Tuesday) she will have another operation to close up the hole in her leg, get a proper cast on it and be a bit more mobile. So far she's been stuck in 1 position all the time. With a bit of luck the police will also pay her a visit so they can nail the b*****d that did it. She should be going home Wed/Thurs, then after that about a total of 3/4 months until she's fully recovered.

The 'Must Have' Accessory for Summer

Source: hazel eyes
Tuesday 21st August 2007, 3:38pm

Arriving at work yesterday once again with wet socks and feet, I have decided that a pair of waterproof walking boots are going to be my next investment.

Maybe I should have bought some boots during the winter, but at that time I was a bit strapped for cash, so I just put up with the odd day of hanging out wet socks in the office and attempting to dry out my trainers before I had to go home again.

I dont think I can put it off any longer, yesterday was the last straw. For the sake of my mental health (and my poor wet feet) I am going to invest in a decent pair of walking boots to traverse the rivers that pour down the pavements after heavy rain. Of course this will also have the added advantage of my feet being more waterproof when I go footpath walking along fields and the like.

Not gonna be cheap though, looks like a decent pair could cost upwards of £50, thank goodness its payday soon.

Cycling on the Pavement

Source: hazel eyes
Thursday 16th August 2007, 2:33pm

Please don't, its bad for my health.

Walking back home from work, a cyclist silently zips past me making me jump out of my skin. There was no bell tinkling to let me know he was approaching and give me chance to move out of the way, just a WHHHHOOOSSSSHHH as he passed about 6 inches from my left elbow.

What if I'd stepped sideways for some reason, or bent to do up a shoelace? SPLAT! Bad news for me and him, especially if he's been thrown into the road in front of rushour traffic.

So, cyclists, if you must use pavements, even though its illegal, please warn pedestrians you are there, don't just shoot past them at 20mph.

Sales, glorious sales

Source: hazel eyes
Friday 10th August 2007, 11:47am

Aint it grand, more sales than you can shake a stick at! If only I could be bothered to resell it on ebay.

Everywhere you look in Exeter, there's a sale on... Debenhams is moving premises, and just about every other store has got some sort of extravaganza on.

For myself, I've just been pottering round the clothes (suprise suprise) and picked up a few things - shorts, tops and a lovely silk scarf I've had my eye on for ages but didn't want to pay full price for (got it half price)

It got me to thinking tho, must be heaven for ebay sellers - must be some real opportunities for handsome profitmaking. One of my friends used to do a bit and it paid for her family holiday. I can't be bothered with the hassle of packaging, posting etc but never say never, might be something for a rainy day :-)

Who got sunburnt then?

Source: hazel eyes
Tuesday 7th August 2007, 2:55pm

After a fabulously sunny weekend (where I am anyway) how many people are doing lobster impressions?

Hurragh! Sunshine! Went for a nice walk Saturday afternoon and lounged about outside on Sunday, resulting in..... no... could it be..... a suntan! Woo!

Not that I'm a sun worshipper, but I do like to at least change colour slightly during the summer months. I find lying out in it for hours boring, not to mention sticky so I only do about half an hour a side depending on time of day etc. without suntan lotion. If I'm at the beach or something then I'll slap it on, cos sunburn is BAD.

Anyhoo, happy Hazel for now. Wonder how many overdid it?

One of my mates sent me an amusing text today, made me laugh.....

I'll translate it into non text speak lol

Just met your double, no joke! I swear I thought it was you. I even shouted your name, but it just carried on scratching its arse and eating bananas.
