Olive Magazine Name Fifteen Cornwall Restaurant of the Year!
Source: Jo78 Fifteen Cornwall has been named Restaurant of the Year in BBC's olive magazine, following a review earlier in the year by presenter Greg Wallace and olive reader Allan Ford. BBC magzine olive, has named us, Fifteen Cornwall, as their Restaurant of the Year in the January edition which has hit news stands across the country this week. This amazing accolade follows a review in the magazines pro vs. punter column, when Gregg Wallace, presenter of BBC 2s Master Chef Goes Large and BBC Radio 4s Market Forces, and olive reader, Allan Ford, both dined at Fifteen Cornwall and gave the restaurant on the beach at Watergate Bay a combined score of 53 out of 60 the highest score of all of the restaurants reviewed in 2006. Gregg praised Fifteen Cornwalls lamb ravioli with sage and orange butter, charming staff and romantic atmosphere whilst, reader reviewer Allan loved the sweet and succulent scallops, and said the restaurant had the finest views in the country! Wow! What a Christmas present!! We hope to see you at the restaurant soon. Source: Jo78 Fifteen Cornwall trainee chef Sam Lounds gives us his personal account of the recent trip to Puglia in Italy. Hi everyone. I am Sam, another of the trainee chefs at Fifteen Cornwall. I wanted to write something in our blog about our trip to Italy in October. Sorry its taken me a while to put it up, but things do get a bit hectic around here and before you know it, a couple of months have flown by and Christmas is upon us! Anyway hope you enjoy reading about my take on the trip to Puglia and I hope to get back on here soon to keep you all informed about what us trainees are getting up to!
PugliaI really felt that our trip to Puglia was enjoyable. Firstly it was good to spend more time with each other as a group and get to know each other better, as when you are working shifts, you work with different people all of the time, so dont often get the chance to come together as a whole group. Secondly, it was just a great cultural experience. Learning about how the Italians live their everyday lives and the food they eat was brilliant and so different to how we go about things back here. Our trip was quite varied and we learnt about the poor mans food that is eaten in Southern Italy. All the meals that the locals consume are either produced, grown or reared by themselves personally or they are bought by local suppliers. I thought this was a really interesting contrast to the mass manufactured food that we have back here in England. I dont think I saw one supermarket the whole time I was in Puglia only family run greengrocers, butchers and bakers. We had the opportunity to meet some of these families and we even ate with some of them in their homes. Their hospitality was fantastic. They were all so welcoming and it really was amazing to see them making their own produce, such as pasta, bread, and ricotta. Some families worked hard enough to make extra produce which helped in supporting the financial overheads of their farm. The diversity of food that is extracted from the land is amazing. They grow their own fruit, veg and herbs. All of the animals that they rear to eat (including horses!), are fed on natural food and no pesticides are used to grow their fruit and veg etc. so everything is organic. It really was great to be part of the Italian culture, even if it was only for a few days. I would love to go back to Italy again after I graduate at Fifteen Cornwall and if this blog is still going, maybe I can come back and write about it! Thanks for reading this everyone and if youre ever down at the restaurant, please come and say hello!
