Now the environmental implications of the brands durability surely has to be another green feather in Land Rover's cap.

There's an interesting fact on the wikipedia entry for Land Rover that claims that it is reckoned that over 80% of all landrovers ever built are still in use and furthermore Freelander have been the best selling SUV since the turn of the millenium.
