Politicians exposed...

Not really a green related blog, but it made me smile…

A toddler, aged two-and-a-half, and his mother walked into a fire station in Braintree, Essex, on Tuesday saying the boy had put his head through a small trainer seat for the toilet and now could not remove it.

However, on a green-related issue...

The European Union emits 20,268 extra tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year by holding parliamentary sessions in France and Belgium, according to a report on Wednesday. That amount is equivalent to 13,000 return transatlantic flights and is more CO2 than some small island countries emit on their own, said the European Parliament's Greens party which commissioned the study.

So, the answer is simple, ban all politicians!

... or drink to recycling !

Had another lazy weekend and made the most of the sun, but didn't do too much in the garden. Caught one more red lily beetle, thought it was going well then spotted a lily plant that I had forgotten about and it was full of holes, so I sprayed the poor thing to death nearly.

So, with not much to report here are some 'eco-ish' things to note:

You can get a pack of three recycled pens made from old car parts, via the Natural Collection site. An application is being made to build 'a 16 home Earthship' at Brighton ~ The homes are made out of car tyres and empty beer cans that heats and cools itself. Also, it recycles its own water, uses solar and wind power, generates no CO2 and disposes of its own water, and they claim has no utility bills. However, they are expected to be on the market for around £400,000 (cough). Finally, for health reasons only Smokehead Islay single-malt scotch. Described as rich, seaweedy, peaty, fruity, with notes of sherry, iodine (told you it was for health reasons), toffee, smoke and sea salt. After all that, I'm not sure whether you eat or drink it.

One red lily beetle

No red lily beetle !

Hope you all had a good Easter - I spent a lot of time doing nothing but reading and drinking (plus chomping the odd Easter egg).

Caught my first red lily beetle of the year, put paper below the plant as the beetle usually drops like a stone when you try to pick it off the plant, and the paper also stops it disappearing into the soil, then I squished it with great satisfaction. I then sprayed all the lilies as a precaution and so far no signs of anymore beetles (or eggs that look like beetle poo!).

As, it was Easter I thought that I would read something in keeping with the occasion, so I have been reading 'The Genesis Code' by John Case (a husband and wife writing team no less). The story is based on the confessions of a dying doctor in a small village, which could bring down the Catholic Church (a popular theme these days aka 'The Da Vinci Code'). Will let you know in due course if it is any good.
