Hum...

Well it's nearly the weekend, it's cold, wet and grey and I need something to cheer me up, so what can I find…

A hundred residents of the Russian village Bogolyubovo (which means 'God-loving'), have refused to switch to new passports because they believe the documents' bar codes contain satanic symbols, state television reported.

Some residents have also stopped collecting their pensions at the local post office because the payment slips also have bar codes that might contain the mark of the devil, Rossiya TV reported.

Yes, I know it's not 'green' related but I couldn't find anything slightly amusing linked to gardening, unless of course you include Alan Titchmarsh's (non-gardening) books!!! Have a great weekend.

Pigeons out

Source: Green Fingers
Tuesday 27th March 2007, 4:19pm

A solution at last

Have finally come up with a solution for pigeons trying to nest in a shrub that I have in the corner of my garden, with an evergreen clematis growing through it (that they damaged last year).

I bought a roll of the green plastic netting, cut off sections to make small rolls and then slide them into the shrub. From the outside you cannot see the netting, it's deep enough to not get in the way when pruning and it seems to put the pigeons off.

They've had a couple of goes (that I've seen) and flown off being unable to get into the shrub. It also provides additional support for the clematis to lock on to. Still no sign of the cat(s) in the garden since using the scardy cat plants, though I nearly forgot to bring them in before a ground frost.

Southwest, the new UK?

Having previously mentioned about 'green issues' covered on the James Whale show on Talksport, I noticed that we are slowly taking over the show.

We went from one caller in Exeter talking about the growing number of bins he has to use for disposing of his rubbish (he is currently up to four). He was then followed by Paul from Devon, who wanted to express his view that CO2 has no effect on global warming (wasn't me trying to hammer the point home).

So, if you get the chance call in, email, text or whatever and do your bit to help the Southwest take over the country!

Blue skies

Green skies?

Noted in the Sunday papers this weekend. Low-cost airline Easyjet and the airports operator BAA are heading a new group to lobby against what they believe are unfair taxes on the aviation industry. They meet for the first time on March 27th, with forty to fifty organisations expect to join. The industry wants to counter claims about its impact on climate change. Airlines have pointed out that the proceeds from the tax (Air Passenger Duty) have not been earmarked to invest in green energy projects.

Despite ringing round the bosses of British airlines to attend a photoshoot at Defra's offices to launch the Carbon Offsetting Scheme, no one from the industry turned up. One chief executive was amazed to even be invited as he had previously written to ministers outlining his objections to APD, which the Government presented as a "green tax even though its not directly linked to emissions."

Bit by bit, as more questions are being asked about these new policies / taxes, are the facts claimed on which they are based, being called into question.

CO2 aware car insurance

An alternative to CO2 taxes?

As some of you are already aware about my views on the CO2 'con', but you still want to look at related issues, then it may be worth your while to visit ecoinsurance. This is part of the Co-operative Insurance which provides offers for those who are CO2 aware.

It provides you with the conventional car insurance services, but will also offset 20% of your car's CO2 emissions. As well as the carbon offset it also lists a 10% discount for tax band A cars and an eco-friendly repair network who recycle certain car parts.

As in all cases when quoting from a financial site, please be aware that offers are date related and remember to check any footnotes on the site. In my view this is a far better service / option than more government taxes.

I'm green!

Source: Green Fingers

Who's the greenest?

As expected, Labour and Conservatives are trying to out do each other over green issues. The main 'plank' of their campaigns is CO2 taxes despite unbiased evidence to the contary.

I was listening to the James Whale show last night on TalkSport and there were more calls from people who had caught the repeat showing of 'The Great Global Warming Swindle' and were even more angry when they realised the false assumptions that the so called CO2 taxes are based on. Hopefully, one of the main contributors on the programme will be on the (radio) show very soon.

It was interesting to read an article in the Independent about the programme and how they tried to discredit the statements by using half-truths in their comments. I'm all for recycling, improving (renewable) energy sources etc., but not at the expense of CO2 taxes which will no doubt be used by the government to patch-up other failures elsewhere in their budget.

CO2 taxes are a fake, nothing but lip service to con people about their (government) caring policies. As before go to CH4's website and make up you own mind about what is really happening and why.

CO2 swindle

New facts about global warming uncovered

Did anybody else catch the programme 'The Great Global Warming Swindle' on CH4 last night?

It dealt with the issue in two parts, with part one covering what causes global warming. The facts showed that CO2 doesn't have any major impact on the weather, the controlling factor is the Sun. Very briefly put, the Sun controls the Cosmic Rays which in turn control the Clouds which in turn control our climate. The programme exposed the flaws in current evidence (biased - see part two) and clearly showed what is really happening. Incidentally, the biggest source of CO2 is not man made, it's the ocean!

Part two explained how the CO2 campaign came about. Again briefly put, Mrs Thatcher didn't trust the miners (coal) and the Middle East (oil) and wanted information to discredit the use of coal/oil, so that nuclear power would be more acceptable. Later on, with the fall of Communism etc., party members moved their focus to the CO2 campaign so that they could continue to target capitalist industries.

The CO2 campaign has become a new gravy train for those looking to get funding for their projects, and for those looking for political street cred.

I know the above is very thin on details, so if you didn't see the programme go to the CH4 website and read the information, remember this also undermines all the excuses for having CO2 taxes!

Venture in if you dare

Thanks to Eddie2sox and knightrider45 for their solutions on keeping pigeons and cats out of my garden.

I have hijacked a battery powered water gun from my brother, for use on the pigeons and followed up on the Scardy Cat Plants for the cats. The plants do work as I had them before, then lost them to a heavy frost (my fault!) and forgot about them as they had kept the cats at bay.

Have put off doing any work on the garden due to weather (weak excuse), and suffering with a back strain that I woke up with a couple of days ago, perhaps a delayed reaction to working in the garden last week.

Hope you are having more luck.

Green providers

Source: Green Fingers
Friday 2nd March 2007, 5:08pm

An independent source...

Following on from my earlier blog about dipping my toe into the 'green energy' providers issue, I have found a site which covers a wider range of 'green products'.

The site is called The Green Providers Directory, and the list under Green Providers ranges from charities, clothing, financial, gifts, energy, health, household, services through to my favourite item, wines!.

In addition, there's information on recycling, news, blogs and useful links. So, if you are looking to find something different, recycled or natural products, that in most cases can be delivered directly to your door, then given this site a try.

Have a good weekend one and all.
